Injection containers are generally ampoules or containers made of hard neutral glass (e.g. penicillin vials), but plastic containers are also available.
The ampoules are usually made of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20ml, etc. Besides, there are also curved-neck ampoules. China's new national standard GB2637-1995 stipulates that all ampoules used for water injection are bent-necked ampoules. In order to avoid contamination of the drug solution by glass chips and particles entering the ampoule when breaking the ampoule neck, the State Drug Administration (SDA) of China has enforced the use of easy-folding ampoules with curved necks.
There are two types of easy-fold ampoules: color ring easy-fold ampoules and dot-mark easy-fold ampoules. The color ring easy-fold ampoule is a low melting point powder with a coefficient of expansion twice as high as that of the ampoule glass, which is fused to the neck of the ampoule to form a ring, and after cooling, due to the different coefficients of expansion of the two types of glass, a circle of permanent stress is generated in the ring, which can be broken flatly with force and is not easy to produce glass debris. When folding, the force is applied to the backside of the middle of the indentation, and the fracture surface should be flat after folding. At present, ampoules are mostly colorless, which is beneficial to check the clarity of the drug solution. For drugs requiring light shielding, amber-colored glass ampoules can be used. Amber color can filter out ultraviolet rays and is suitable for photosensitive drugs. Amber ampoules contain iron oxide, and traces of iron oxide may be leached and enter the product. If the product contains ingredients that can be catalyzed by iron ions, amber glass containers should not be used.
